A tax for a good cause, is still a tax.
If any person, organization, corporation or government thinks they have a 'good idea' that would better the community, let them present it to the community & collect donations to fund it. This is what Public Radio, Religious Youth Groups, Girl Scouts & many societal organizations do & they seem to survive quite well. If it is a useful service or tool, then sell it & healthy competition will keep the price reasonable.
Taxes are a form of robbery. A government imposes a tax by force, "Give us the money or we will come & take it". Citizens have no choice but to pay in one form or another & only the government gets to choose the form of payment. Also, citizens aren't allowed to tell a government how to spend the money so taken. Even taxes 'earmarked' to certain uses can be comandeered elsewhere.
Taxes are never voluntary. 'Voluntary' would presuppose that the services provided by a government were actually worth the price, & these services can be provided by other companies for a similar price.
So, if it is a good cause, why does 'the government' steal our income to support it? |
